LETTER TO THE EPPF (ARBEGNOCH Ginbar) in Asmara
From the brothers of Tesfaye Getachew
Letter
from Former EPPF fighters - Amharic (pdf)
This letter is addressed particularly to Ato Abera Atalye (also
known as Meskerem) and to Ato Mussie Tegegne (Musie Tegegne is
in fact called Wessen. He changed his name when he was in Israel
before moving to Geneva, Switzerland ). It concerns the murder
of our brother Tesfaye Getachew.
TESFAYE was a leader of the university students in Addis Ababa
and he fled to Kenya/Nairobi/after the repression. From what we
were able to gather he was working with/for the EPRP and was recruited
into the Ethiopian Unity Front. He was trained in the Sudan and
fought inside Quara as a EUF cadre/leader. When the EUF disbanded
he returned to the Sudan and from there he went to Eritrea to join/found
the EUPF or the Arbegnoch Ginbar. We have come to know that he
worked with Colonel Tadesse and Ato Mekserem as a leader of the
EUPF. We have also been told that he and colonel Tadesse had differences
with the Shabiya controllers and when the front split into two/colonel
Tadesse versus Meskerem/ and the Eritreans favored the latter he
led a protest movement against Shabiya interference. He was then
detained, tortured and killed by the Shabiya. Some tell us he succumbed
from his torture wounds because he was denied medical attention.
There are two people who are responsible for his murder other
than the Shabiya. And they are Ato Meskerem and Ato Mussie Tegegn
who had him detained tortured. Is this false? If so tell us where
is Tesfaye Getachew our brother? We want to know and we are calling
on all genuine Ethiopians to demand with us "Where is Tesfaye
Getachew?" We have sent a similar letter to the Eritrean embassies
as we want the Shabiya to reply to this. In the pal talks please
ask Ato Zewdalem, Meskerem and other representatives of this front
to tell the relatives of Tesfaye and the Ethiopian public as to
what happened to Tesfaye Getachew.
